This is a picture of my brother Ted…

This is a picture of my brother Ted en route to finishing 31st in the 2004 Olympic Trials Marathon. This was no small feat for a guy who had run 3 other marathons in the previous 6 months just to get the qualifying mark to compete in the race. Ted is a fierce competitor and has won hard fought races over everyone from the hometown hero to Olympians from around the globe. However, in college, there was one person Ted had always hoped to beat that he never did. That person was Haverford’s own, Karl Paranya. What an unfortunate piece of timing that Ted, a miler at the time, would end up in college at the same time as the most celebrated Div. III athlete of the last quarter century and the divisions first sub-4 minute miler. However, like Ted, what Karl achieved did not come to him alone. It came with guidance and assistance from others. Tonight hear from the man who led Karl and continues to lead so many others at Haverford to amazing achievements. Coach Tom Donnelly speaks tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery as part of Versus: an interdisciplinary conversation about competition.
