Lee Walton is on his way back to Greesboro. To prepare. For the winner.
I’m thinking about Lee Walton, Marcel Duchamp, and chance. What’s the difference between being driven by chance operations, by imperatives that escape you and lord over you, i.e., games and proverbs and norms, on the one hand, and allowing chance to interrupt the presumptions of mastery, decision, and good measure, on the other. The first compels, puts you to work, the second promises a degree of freedom, a little peace. Perhaps these are but two forms of passivity, two ways to decorate passivity, to even out-play the difference between activity and passivity.
I’m just in this kind of mood today.
